First album distributed, its been a “long time comin”!
Record Union has distributed our first album! But before you start rushing to the website to upload your own music, you should know that this was just a trial run! We needed to test that all the technical stuff is working, which it is! Wohoo!
So who was chosen for this journey into the previously unchartered realm of Record Union distribution? The band in question was none other than Motherpearl, a great rock outfit playing out of Gothenburg (Sweden). They have been creating quite a stir on their local circuit with their powerfull live performances and quality delivery. These guys are seriously talented, combining well thought out catchy rock riffs and energetic vocals with what can only be described as a groovy, funk vibe. Their new album, “Long Time Comin” is already available on a few music shops (find them on Amazon here), and will be available for purchase on all partners, and all over the world, in about 4-6 weeks time. We caught up with bass player of the band, Daniel Sjöstrand, to see how he feels about their new online release. We post the Q&A here for your reading pleasure.
Kind of cliché I know, but “Motherpearl” is an awesome name! what inspired it?
“Good question actually, and cliché indeed! (laugher)”
To be perfectly honest the name is a re-writing of the seashell-stuff ‘mother of pearl’. When the band got started we had just got our eyes on a guitar brand called “Warrior” that used exclusive materials, like mother of pearl, in their instruments. To us, mother of pearl was a sweet material and a little luxurious in a cool way
(jut like our band). So we named the band “Mother Pearl”, forgetting the “of”. When we discovered the mistake it made the name even better, it was now even more unique. After a while we put the words together to “Motherpearl” instead. So if you want an explanation of what it means I guess it would be: A group of guys with too much confidence who are in love with precious guitars”
Fascinating! So, How does it feel to release your first album digitally?
“It’s a blessing. We released the album physically by our selves last summer in a limited edition. The intention was to sell the album on gigs and to send it to clubs and venues to get gigs. For us the most cost efficient way to spread our music would be through the Internet. But it’s hard to do.
What would you like to accomplish with the release of “Long Time Comin”?
“We want to bring the groove back in to the rock music! The attitude and energy of a great rock band and the groove and rhythm in funk music is truly a match made in heaven. It is time for artists to start playing clubs again, to go on tour and to prove that real music is to be experienced live. And as far as selling albums is concerned, the Internet is the future. The release of “Long Time Comin” is a way for us to reach more people and to go to new places”
Sounds like a noble venture indeed! So what do you think about the idea behind Record Union? Do you think that online distribution will help independent artists like you?
“Absolutely! We always wanted to release our songs online. But we didn’t know how to do it. Record Union is great because they took care of the distribution for us. It’s almost insane when you think about the short time it took to spread the album all over the world with the help of Record Union and compare that to the time it would have taken us to do it ourselves. Independent artists need something that guides their way on the bumpy road of releasing an album online. And I truly believe that Record Union is the perfect guide. We still own our music and can continue recording albums without worrying about distribution anymore. Keep it up guys!”
We would like to thank Motherpearl for their kind words, and that we look forward to a long and successfull future together, rock on! Distributing a first album using our platform is a truly pinnacle achievment for Record Union, and rest assured, this is only the begining!

This is GREAT!
I’ve listen to these guys for about two years now and I really enjoy listening to thier music and specially thier live performances. The music is great on the album but it gets at least ten times better live.
At the gigs I’ve seen with them resently almost half the croud have been singing along with every single word.
This is just a great chans for them to reach out with thier music and hopefully get some gigs outside Sweden.
See you at the next live show with MOTHERPEARL!
(Both Motherpearl and Record Union: Keep up the good work)
