I have found taking old material and turning it into new inventions is sometimes just as fun as doing something from scratch. I also like to take "old" ideas that never materialized and remanifest them in various tunes. writing a song is an open field, and there are no rules against using/reusing/revamping/redesigning the same song a million times (I am getting close with one particular tune I like to use).
