On September 10, digital music distributor Record Union and holistic health organization Equilibrium team up to create an interactive virtual workshop. ‘Applied Wellness for the Music Industry’ is designed to bring tangible wellness practices into the daily life of musicians and music industry professionals, with the help of experts from related fields.
Inspired by The 73 Percent study, which revealed a deep level of mental health issues within the music community, Record Union launched The Wellness Starter Pack – a toolbox for wellbeing, created with music makers in mind. Applied Wellness for the Music Industry will help attendees to incorporate the ideas behind the starter pack and bring wellness into their day-to-day life.
“The need for holistic wellness resources and support has always been crucial for music makers and the music industry. As Covid-19 presents additional challenges to our health and careers, an increased focus on wellness has never been more needed in order to not only persevere, but to thrive,” says Nicole Blonder co-founder of Equilibrium.
The workshop puts a spotlight on how wellness can impact the life of musicians and people working in the music industry. A panel of experts from the areas of Mindfulness, Exercise, Nutrition, and Sleep – all part of The Wellness Starter Pack – will discuss how these key components impact mental and holistic health, especially in the lives of musicians and people working in the music industry. They will also be presenting exercises and actions that the attendees can implement right away.
“Our goal with The Wellness Starter Pack is to help artists prioritize and take better care of their mental health by providing concrete information and tangible tools. In this workshop, we will be sharing more tools, resources, and strategies for musicians and people working in the industry to manage mental wellness during Covid-19 and beyond,” says Johan Svanberg, CEO at Record Union.

Dan Gartenberg. Dan has dedicated his life to helping people sleep better. Daniel has a Ph.D in Cognitive Psychology, and is an adjunct assistant professor at Penn State University.
He has conducted grant-funded research from the National Science Foundation and the National Institute of Aging to develop sound environments that can diagnose and treat sleep disorders, improve sleep quality, and optimize daytime alertness. He has also developed several mobile sleep apps, such as the SleepSpace Coach, which provides personalized sleep feedback and sounds that are designed to modulate sleep quality.
His current research is focused upon accurately tracking sleep quality through wearable technology. But he doesn’t just want to measure it, he wants to make it better. Dan is particularly interested in using technology to enhance slow wave sleep (also known as deep sleep) by manipulating temperature, light, and sound. He delivered an excellent TED talk that explains how stimulating deep sleep can help us learn and consolidate memories, regenerate our tissues, and generally make us healthier and more productive.
